THE BETTER YOU LOOK, THE MORE YOU SEE

BIO

Alfonso Suarez

With clients in Europe, South America, and the United States, Alfonso is a Style Consultant who believes in betterment of oneself translates to betterment of one’s life. “If you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, good things come to you” To Alfonso, who has degree in journalism from Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, style is anything but frivolous. “Substance in style is all about who you are. It’s your uniqueness, your story, that makes you fabulous.“ Leaving Venezuela behind, where he learned the intense colors of lush flowers and vibrant trees, he came to New York to study fashion at FIT, and soon, he was an assistant fashion editor at Allure Magazine, before moving on to being a designer for Ann Taylor, Talbot's, and The Gap.

The mesh of these two seemingly irrelevant fields, fashion and journalism, reflects Alfonso’s eclectic aesthetics. “It’s all about creating tension by mixing different elements together to complement and contrast. Rough and soft, shiny and matt.” For this reason, his deeply drawn to old as new, tradition and modernity. While Alfonso was working for Gordon Foster, Inc, a renounced antique shop, their merchandise was regularly featured in Elle Decor, House & Garden, Vogue, House Beautiful, The New York Times Magazine, and Architectural Digest and O Magazine. Alfonso also served as Auction Manager and display designer for Housing Works Thrift Shops designing and executing window displays and overseeing the photographing and copy writing of the goods auctioned at shophousingworks.com.

Despite the non-frivolous philosophy of style, Alfonso’s approach to work is far from being weighty or too serious. “You have to be playful. You need to have fun!“ And the latest fun he’s having is in collaboration with swimwear designer Jeffery Allen (jefferyallen.com) and visual merchandising for Poundcake NYC, a pop up shop opening all over New York.
